Pattern and Texture

Freda Fairchild uses primarily non-toxic printmaking techniques.  Pattern and texture are integral to her work. She combines multiple layers, building lush surfaces of rich color, printing on wood and transparent silk as well as paper. In this workshop she will talk about her work process and demonstrate many of the printmaking techniques which include: polyester plate lithography, solar plate, printing on wood, fabric and other substrates, viscosity printing, aqueous monotype.


Freda Fairchild earned a B.A. of Art at Berea College in Berea, KY and did her graduate studies at San Francisco State College. Her work is shown nationally and internationally. Her many awards include a Juror’s Choice Award in the HCAF’s 2001 Counterpoint Exhibition and the Grand Prize in the Mid-Atlantic Small Print Exhibition in Washington D.C. Her work is represented in collections throughout the U.S. including the Smithsonian Library in Washington D.C. www.fredafairchild.com
