Pottery Making

Learn the art of pottery making on the potter’s
wheel. This workshop will be an extensive hands-on
approach to beginning pottery with emphasis on wheel
throwing by master potter Mark Jackson. Beginners
will learn basic wheel skills: centering, opening,
pulling, shaping trimming and finishing, as well as
preparation for glazing. As a beginner, the student
will be making variations on the basic cylinder,
such as mugs, vases, and bowls.

Mark Jackson is a 1980 graduate of
The Memphis Academy of Arts in
Memphis, TN. He holds a BFA in
painting and ceramics. He studied
under the acclaimed teaching of
Peter Sohngen, Jeff Oestrich, Ken
Ferguson, and Tom Coleman, to name a
few masters in the ceramic industry.
During his 30 years of working in
the arts he has won numerous awards
for his paintings and ceramic works
across the country.
