For
painters who want to be more confident
in painting portraits. This class will
focus on ways to check the accuracy of
one’s initial sketch and ways of seeing
value and representing the subject in
simple values. Artists will work from
instructor-provided photographs on the
first day and from the model on the
second day. (Students should be
comfortable -not unfamiliar- with their
medium for this workshop. The focus will
be portraiture, not learning a new
medium.) Enrollment will be limited in
order to offer ample individual
attention. Plan to learn a lot and have
loads of fun!
Susan Carlin has been painting
commissioned portraits for over 30
years. She works in both oil and pastel.
Artist’s Statement: "I especially love
to paint people . I'm sometimes
compelled to paint a certain landscape
or still life. However painting people,
either in a formal portrait or from a
chance observation, most fully engages
me. I delight in the accuracy that
dances with color and mood. It's that
challenge that moves me from the
painting I'm working on at the moment,
to the next and the next. Helping
emerging artists to build their skills
and their confidence is a special
pleasure." |
