There will four
sessions of camp
to choose from.
The morning
sessions will be
held from 9 am
to noon, the
afternoon
sessions will be
from 2 – 5 pm.

Young Artists
Camp is divided
into four age
groups: 4-5,
6-8, 9-11 and 12
or older. The
curriculum is
TEKS-based,
structured
around the four
basic stands:
perception,
creative
expression,
historical and
cultural
heritage, and
critical
evaluation.
Components are
introduces with
age appropriate
activities.
In the 4-5 age
group campers
will be
introduced to
art elements:
line, shape,
texture, value,
color and space.
Children will be
encouraged to
relate art to
everyday life
and discover art
in their
environment,
gleaning
information
using the five
senses. In
hands-on
creative manner,
children explore
artwork in a
variety of media
- collage,
drawing,
painting, etc.
The 6-8 year
olds will have
an introduction
to the
principles of
design: harmony,
variety and
contrast,
balance,
movement and
dominance, as
well as the art
elements.
Children will be
given guidance
to identify
sensory
knowledge and
life experiences
as sources for
art expression.
This class will
have an
introduction to
art history and
culture, along
with the
opportunity to
create original
artwork –
drawings,
paintings,
constructions,
fiber art, etc.

Along with art
elements and the
principles of
design, the 9-11
year old campers
will explore
artistic styles:
realism,
impressionism,
expressionism and
surrealism.
Discussions will
delve into
communicating ideas
about feelings,
self, family, school
and community
through art.
Historical and
cultural heritages
will be explored
through the
understanding of art
history as records
of human
achievement,
identifying
similarities and
differences. Campers
will combine
information from
direct observation,
experience and
imagination to
create original
artworks using a
variety of art
materials.
In the age group for
12 years and up,
campers will have
the opportunity to
utilize the ceramic
lab and the computer
lab. Throughout the
week, whether
working with clay or
creating
computer-generated
art, campers will
review art elements,
principles of design
and artistic styles.
Campers will learn
technical skills to
effectively create
original artwork
expressing their own
ideas based on
personal experience,
direct observation
and traditional
events.
