Drawing

Instructor:  Deborah Males
CREATIVE DRAWING
September 26 – 28, 2007

The workshop will focus on the subject of creative drawing. The course will begin with classical ideas about drawing: the concepts of contour drawing and gesture drawing, techniques for creating volume with line, and drawing from life. Then will proceed to investigate drawing in color, drawing with acrylic paint and pastel, and using photographic imagery in drawing. We will discuss concepts that artists have used through history to be better observers. Students will be encouraged to explore the "world in their own back yard."

Tuition: HCAF Members $225; Non-members $250

Deborah Males grew up painting in Corpus Christi. While earning her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University at College Station, she spent a year working with painter Alan Stacell. A licensed architect, Males earned her Master of Arts degree from Texas A&M–Corpus Christi in 1980. Recently, the City of Corpus Christi commissioned Males to create a mural of the Texas Landscape, which is on permanent display at the Corpus Christi Senior Garden Center. Her work is also part of the permanent collection of the South Texas Institute for the Arts, as well as those of Frost Bank, American Express, and others
