This workshop
combines instructor demonstrations and
individual instruction for each student.
Through the use of painting with a
model, from photographs, and on
location, Dawson focuses on problem
solving techniques. Over the course of
the week he describes four approaches to
solving background problems, reasons for
using hard and soft edges, solving
problems with composition and color,
creating depth in a painting, and
finally illustrating techniques for
painting water. Students may bring 3 – 5
pieces of work for a personal critique.
