PRINTMAKING - WOODCUTS
February 27 – March 3, 2006
Day 1 of this workshop will consist of general
study of the wood cut, including history,
various styles and the possibilities of the
technique. Then students will draw or paint
possible designs, learning to transfer these to
the woodblock. Day 2, students will learn the
process of cutting, sanding and sealing
woodblock to prepare for printing. On Day 3,
students will learn what is involved in
editioning a print and variations on color or
method of inking. Day 4 will move to multicolor
prints and multi-plate printing for more colors.
Day 5, students will explore combining the
woodcut with under prints from other plates,
venture into very abstract inking and
non-traditional processes.
Tuition: HCAF Members $150; Non-members $160 |

MONOTYPES/MONOPRINTS
May 8 - 12, 2006
Monotypes are prints from a flat plate with no
image cut into it or etched. A plexiglass plate
is commonly used as ground for the painted image
and it is printed either by press or hand
burnishing. However, metals may be used, and
even a wood plate, or a plate constructed of mat
board. In this class students will learn and
experiment with monotype methods, then move on
to explore the monoprint by creating a
plexiglass plate with an engraved or cut line
drawing. Students will try different ways of
inking and wiping the plates and learn to
achieve a variety of effects. The techniques of
building a collagraph plate, constructing a
chase for registration of printing multiple
colors, making and using stamps, and enhancing
prints with other media will also be included in
this highly informative workshop.
Tuition: HCAF Members $150; Non-members $160 |
