Austrian-born
photographer Hansjurgen
Bauer’s Texas is a
landscape unfamiliar to
most, perceivably
strange and ethereal,
where place and subject
merge fact and fiction.
In his current
photo-based series, God
and Texas, native
longhorns roam among
zebra and oryx, kudu and
camels, ibex and eland,
emu and ostrich, under
the same mystic cypress
and live oak. If you’re
curious about this
fantastic place, you’re
not alone.
Inspired by 19th century
landscape, pastoral and
“animilier” painters
linked with both the
Romantic and Realistic
traditions, Bauer
captures the raw,
majestic beauty of this
idyllic, sprawling Hill
Country plateau and its
wildlife, both domestic
and exotic, with a
unique eye and haunting
style.
Bauer’s photo-based art
has been exhibited
throughout the West. He
is also a successful
screenwriter and author.
He divides his time
between Los Angeles and
the Texas Hill Country. |
