The 2009 HCAF National
is an all media exhibition accepting both two and
three dimensional entries. Entries will be juried by
digital and slide images with Jack Ramsey serving as
juror. There will be $2,750 in cash awards,
sponsored by the Charlie Fritts Memorial Fund.
All works chosen by the juror will be exhibited at
HCAF September 19 through November 7. Awards will be
announced at the reception, Saturday, September 19.
Juror
Jack Ramsey was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He
attended school in both, Dallas and Stephenville,
Texas before moving to the northeastern United
States. While living in New York City he pursued a
career as an actor. After leaving acting, he began
painting. He studied at the National Academy of
Design and The Art Student’s League in New York
City. Jack received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. in
painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art in
Bloomfield, Michigan.
Jack spent the following years teaching at the
Museum of Modern Art (Moma) in New York City. He was
also the Head of the art department at Atlanta
College of Art in Georgia. While living in Georgia
he also taught in his own Ramsey Workshop of Art. He
moved back to Long Island, New York where he taught
painting and drawing at the Guild Hall Museum
located in East Hampton, New York, as well as the
Parrish Art Museum, in South Hampton, N.Y. At this
time, Jack had his own Studio/Workshop in Sag Harbor
where he resided with Swedish Born artist, Daga
Ramsey.
In 1995 Jack returned to Texas and to the hill
country. He now resides in Kerrville with his wife
Evelyn, an artist and art historian. Since moving
back to Kerrville, Jack has been active in the local
arts community. As a member of the Kerrville Art
Club he has received numerous awards in their annual
juried shows. He has also had many solo and group
exhibitions.
One of his most recent solo exhibits was “ SECRET
LOTS ” -1990-2005, a fifteen–year retrospective of
paintings which was held at the Kerr Arts & Cultural
Center. Some of his recent group exhibits have
included “ Four Contemporary Artist, ” featuring
work by Jack, Mo Elmore, Rosanne Keller and Ken
Malson. He also had a two-person show with
printmaker, Charlie Fritts at Hill Country Arts
Foundation. He is a member of the studio one- Friday
Painters, a group of artists devoted to painting and
critiquing art.
Jack’s work can be found in the permanent
collections of The William A. Farnsworth Art Museum
in Rockland, ME; The Guild Hall Museum in East
Hampton, NY; The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton,
NY; The Pensacola Museum of Art, Pensacola, FL. His
work has also been collected John Steinbeck, NY; Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar Kolin, NY, (Helena Rubenstein
Foundation); The Hearst Corporation, NY, NY; Spelman
College, Atlanta, GA; De Kalb College, Clarkston,
