The Hill Country
Arts Foundation, Ingram, Texas, is a non-profit
educational organization founded in 1958, with
the mission “to sustain a center for the visual
and performing arts that promotes education and
public interest in the arts.”
The gallery at HCAF features regional and
national art. Show dates for the National Juried
3-D Show are September 5 through October 6,
2007.
National juried shows are planned to alternate
3-D and 2-D with the odd and even calendar
years. Watch for the National 2-D Juried
Exhibition in 2008.
HCAF 2007 exhibitions are supported by a grant
from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Awards
All works chosen by the juror will be exhibited
at Hill Country Arts Foundation Gallery
September 5 through October 6. The following
awards will be announced on September 8th, 2007
during the opening reception:
Best in Show: $1000
First Prize: $700
Second Prize: $500
Third Prize: $300

About the Juror
David S. Rubin joined the San Antonio Museum of
Art in 2006 as The Brown Foundation Curator of
Contemporary Art. From 2000-2006, Rubin served
as Curator of Visual Arts at the Contemporary
Arts Center, New Orleans. From 1994-99, he was
Curator of 20th Century Art at Phoenix Art
Museum.
Prior positions include Associate Director/Chief
Curator at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary
Art (1990-94), Director of the Freedman Gallery
at Albright College, Reading, Pennsylvania
(1986-90), Director of Exhibitions at the San
Francisco Art Institute and Adjunct Curator at
the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
(1983-85), Director of Santa Monica College Art
Gallery (1982-83), and Assistant Director of the
Galleries of the Claremont Colleges/Assistant
Professor of Art History at Scripps College
(1977-82).
Since 1980, Rubin has been a member of the
International Association of Art Critics.
Throughout the 1980s, he was a frequent
contributor to Arts and Art in America. In 1996,
Rubin served as U.S. Commissioner for the Cuenca
Bienal of Painting in Ecuador. Since 2001, he
has been an international juror for the Florence
Biennale.
During his tenure at the Contemporary Arts
Center, New Orleans, Rubin organized numerous
exhibitions, including Photography Now, an
international survey of contemporary
photography; Chelsea Rising, the first survey
exhibition ever of the artists who exhibit in
the galleries of New York City’s Chelsea arts
district; Expanding Universe: The Recent
Paintings of Al Held, new work by an American
master, Digital Louisiana, a statewide survey of
works employing computer technology; Baby-Boom
Daydreams: The Art of Douglas Bourgeois, a
traveling survey exhibition and book on the work
of a distinguished Louisiana artist; Birdspace:
A Post-Audubon Artists Aviary, a traveling
exhibition about contemporary artists whose work
deals with bird imagery and culture; Nouveau
Techno: New Media Installations by Sylvie
Blocher, Claude Closky, and Matthieu Laurette;
Tomer Ganihar: Raving in the Desert; Raw Data:
Conceptual Art in Louisiana; The Culture of
Queer: A Tribute to J.B. Harter; and Celebrating
Freedom: The Art of Willie Birch.
Rubin holds an M.A. in Art History from Harvard
University and an A.B. in Philosophy from the
University of California, Los Angeles.
Eligibility
All artists eighteen years of age or older
residing in the United States are eligible to
submit work to this show. Entries must be
original 3 dimensional works and not previously
displayed at Hill Country Arts Foundation.
Maximum size 72” in any direction. Including
frame or base. Weight should not exceed 100
pounds (50 pounds for wall-hung pieces). Work
must not have any sharp edges or dangerous
protrusions.
Entry Fees
The non-refundable fee is $35 for up to three
entries. Payment by check or money order in U.S.
dollars must be included with the entry. Credit
card payments may be made in person or by
calling 830-367-5120 Monday through Saturday 10
a.m.– 4 p.m. For credit card payments, mark the
credit card payment method on the entry form.
Both entry form and payment must arrive by the
deadline.
Entry Procedure
Entries may be sent either in digital format on
compact disc or DVD or in 35mm slide format. See
image specifications for details.
The following information should accompany each
entry:
• A completed entry form.
• Entry fee.
• CD/DVD or Slides, ( limit two images for each
3-D entry) labeled with artist’s name, title of
entry, and entry number corresponding to the
entry number on the entry form.
• SASE for notification of results and return of
entry materials. Make sure size of envelope and
postage are sufficient for return of the
materials.

Image Specifications
Digital images should be in jpg format and no
more than 300 dpi. Images may be up to 1200 X
1000 pixels with the largest side not exceeding
1200 pixels. Images should be no more than 2 MB.
Submit RGB or grayscale color mode files only.
Slides must be 35mm, color, in a 2”X2” mount. No
glass slides will be accepted.
Notification and
return of materials
Entrants will be notified whether work is
accepted or declined on or before August 6, 2007
by email at the address submitted on the entry
form. All entrants providing a SASE will receive
a follow-up notification along with the return
of entry materials. However, HCAF will retain
images of accepted works.
Shipping and Delivery
Shipping artwork to and from the exhibition is
the responsibility of the artist, including
appropriate insurance. All shipping to and from
HCAF must be prepaid. Artist may use his/her
shipping preference, and is responsible for
scheduling delivery and pick up of work. Works
must be labeled with title and artist’s name.
Shipping cartons must be reusable for return
shipping. Late or damaged work will not be
exhibited. Hand-deliveries will be accepted
September 3, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
All work must
arrive by September 3, 2007.

Liability
Receipt of the completed form constitutes your
agreement with all conditions established in the
prospectus. Reasonable care will be taken to
protect artwork on display at HCAF; however,
HCAF does not assume responsibility for loss or
damage to work either in transit or during the
show. HCAF strongly recommends that artist
insures each work appropriately.
Sales
A 40% commission will be retained by HCAF for
all sales made during the exhibition.
Return of Work
Hand-delivered work must be picked up October 8,
2007. Shipped works will be crated and ready for
pick up by Oct 12. It is the responsibility of
the artist to provide shipping to and from the
exhibition, and to schedule delivery and pick up
of the work. Any work not picked up by the
artist or by the carrier selected and scheduled
by the artist by December 31, 2007 will become
the property of HCAF unless extenuating
circumstances apply. HCAF shall be the sole
judge of whether or not extenuating
circumstances apply. |
