THE
HILL COUNTRY ARTS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR
AN ART EXPO
AND EDUCATIONAL WEEKEND - IN MEMORY OF CHARLES FRITTS
October 21-22, 2006
INGRAM - The Hill Country Arts Foundation has
announced the establishment of the Charlie
Fritts Educational Fund in memory of the late
Charles Fritts, a long time HCAF member and
benefactor.
This fund will be used to sponsor the first
annual ART FOR ARTISTS Art Expo and
Educational Weekend at HCAF, October 21 and 22,
2006.

HCAF, with the cooperation of the Southwest
School of Art and Craft will present this
weekend filled with demonstrations, critiques,
lectures, slide presentations and artists
learning from artists. Participants will choose
from approximately 30 sessions presented by 20
instructors to create their own weekend
schedule.
“This educational event seemed to be a perfect
fit for the memorials contributed in honor of
Charlie, “ said a spokesperson for the ART
FOR ARTISTS planning committee. “We plan for
this to be an annual event and one that Charlie
would be proud of.”
Also on the evening of Saturday, October 21,
from 6 to 9 pm, HCAF will host the opening of
“Favorite Things,” a show and sale of over 100
framed original works of art by Charlie Fritts.
This reception is open to the public and will be
an opportunity to meet and reminisce with
Charlie’s family and friends. The exhibition,
which will be in located in Studio Three, will
be on display October 24 through December 22.
All sales benefit the programs of the art
department of HCAF.
“Charlie”, as his friends knew him, was an
accomplished watercolorist and printmaker, who
practiced his art mainly in the HCAF studios.
Charlie and Betty, his wife of more than 50
years, moved to Hunt more than twenty years ago
and immediately became involved in the art
community. Prior to moving to Hunt they had
lived in Houston. Charlie served as a
combat infantryman in World War II and used to
boast of “slogging across France” as a
replacement in the 35th Infantry Division. He
was a raconteur and regaled his friends with his
stories and jokes. He rarely appeared without
his “boombox” and scores of tapes and CD’s
ranging in content from railroad and country
songs to symphonic and operatic selections.
Charlie never sold a painting. To do so, he said,
would make him a professional; however, he gave
them away frequently. Charlie was a member
of the HCAF Wednesday and Friday Studio One
Painters, the Kerrville Art Club, Kerr Arts and
Cultural Center and the Geriatric Art Society
(known as GAS), an organization of painters from
Louisiana and Texas. He was also instrumental in
the founding of KACC.

Educational Fund by sending your designated
