A Message From the Director

Krispen Spencer, Director

The Duncan-McAshan Art Center at the Hill Country Arts Foundation has become a mecca for artists seeking to learn or improve their artistic skills and for art instructors looking for the perfect place to teach a workshop.

Established in 1959, the Center comprises 6000 square feet of climate-controlled workshop space, including fully equipped ceramics and printmaking studios and a 1900 square foot gallery, offering a full spectrum of exhibitions, including at least one national juried show per year.

We offer learning opportunities for artists of all disciplines and skill levels, and we're always open to new ideas for classes. Visiting instructors from around the country join Texas Hill Country resident artists to teach a myriad of classes and have an opportunity to exhibit their work in the gallery, before and during the time when they are teaching a workshop.

Classes and workshops for area and visiting youth also abound in the summer, along with those for the young at heart, which take place all year round. As we approach our 50th year, we look forward with great anticipation to bringing new art and new artists to the center. If you live nearby, you may want to join one of our local Studio Groups, who meet on a regular basis and share the affordable studio rental fee.

Or, if you are looking for a new travel destination, consider an art retreat for yourself, a group of friends, or your art organization. We're only 65 miles northwest of San Antonio or 90 miles southwest of Austin.

We would love to have you come spend some time on our beautiful year-round-great-weather grounds on the Guadalupe River, deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, to inspire or be inspired.
