When you are in the Hill Country you will want to take plenty of time to stop and smell the roses - or maybe the lavender and purple sage. The Kerrville/Ingram area not only provides superb visual arts and theater facilities at the Hill Country Arts Foundation, it’s also a great place to spend time exploring the other arts institutions from the Museum of Western Art to the Kerr Arts & Culture Center. You’ll also find literally dozens of art galleries and skilled crafts shops in our area, along with some excellent antiquing venues in Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Comfort and Boerne.

So if your spouse or friend wants to come along while you enjoy one of our visual arts workshops, they will have plenty to do during the day. When evening comes you find more than 200 eating establishments in the area ranging from outstanding to ordinary – just ask us and we’ll try to steer you toward your favorite kind of dining experience. You can rest your elbows on a table that serves Mexican, Chinese, Italian, continental, southern, Cajun, barbecue, pizza, Asian fusion, Bistro, Deli, Swiss, and more. The grounds of HCAF also offer marvelous opportunities for picnicking, or you can rent a canoe or kayak in town and run one of our clear, cool rivers and find just the right spot to stop for that picnic snack.

The beauty of our Hill Country environment touches both visitors and old-timers alike. The rocky cliffs, flowering cactus, cypress lined creeks and rivers, waterfalls, exotic and native wildlife have inspired many artists. Last year students visited HCAF from all over the United States and from other countries – Japan, Germany, and Mexico, to name a few. Many of our out-of-state instructors consider teaching a workshop here as much a vacation as an assignment, and even those fortunate to already live in the Hill Country enjoy the tranquil inspiration offered by our campus on the banks of the Guadalupe.

Whether you are a well-established artist in your field, an artist seeking additional media and tools for your work, or a budding artist looking for inspiration and fellowship with other artists, you will find what you’re looking for in our schedule of workshops.  We are devoted to creating an exciting, fulfilling learning environment for artists of all ages and all levels of skill.
