The Duncan-McAshan Visual Arts
Center
A 1,700 square foot gallery,
four art studios, a ceramic
studio, a graphic computer lab,
a gallery gift shop and the
Alice Naylor Library comprise
the Duncan-McAshan Visual Arts
Center. The gallery exhibition
schedule includes a full range
of art in virtually all media.
Exhibitions feature local as
well as nationally and
internationally recognized
artists. Works of art are
available for purchase at most
of the shows, and admission to
the gallery is always free.

Workshops
The Hill Country Arts Foundation
has been hosting art workshops
for almost half a century. The
roster of artists who have taught
here reads like a who’s who of
the art community locally,
regionally and nationally.
Although all of our workshops
emphasize hands-on learning,
many instructors also use
slides, on-line resources,
demonstrations and lectures to
supplement the hands-on
experience. Most workshops begin
with demonstrations and coached
practice in the mornings and
move to critiques in the
afternoons. Classes are held
from 9 am until 3 pm with a
one-hour lunch break unless
otherwise noted, and the studios
remain open until 5 pm after
class for extended work if
desired. Full tuition is due 30
days prior to the workshop, and
for those classes that have a
lab fee, a materials fee or a
model fee this fee is due on or
before the first day of class.

workshops.
Facilities
HCAF members have always taken
pride in the quality of the
instructors who facilitate our
workshops as well as in the
superb facilities which we all
work hard to maintain and
improve. All studios are on
ground level with no steps,
eliminating any problem of
accessibility. The painting
studios have north light and are
fully equipped with mirrors,
tables, easels and every
conceivable amenity. The ceramic
studio is state of the art and
is the only fully-equipped
ceramic studio in the area that
is open for public use. Every
studio is climate controlled,
and all can also be opened up to
the superb fresh air that we
enjoy in the Hill Country.
Studio rentals are available
throughout the year for
individuals and small groups,
whether members or non-members;
however, members always have
first priority when scheduling
classes or other events in the
studios. Learn about scheduling

facilities.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Visual Arts department has
many different opportunities for
volunteers to become involved in
the life of the foundation. Here
are just a few of the ways in
which you can help make this a
better place for everyone. If
you would like more information
on any of these volunteer roles,
or on other needs of the Visual
Arts department, please contact
our director,
Debbie Luce.
