Disney's smash hit is the story of two very different high school juniors: Gabriella, a math and science whiz who recently transferred to East High School, and Troy, the school's basketball captain. Their decision to audition for the leads in their high school musical turns the school upside down. Troy's best friend, Chad (who is also a basketball star), and Gabriella's new friend, Taylor (captain of the Scholastic team), discourage them. Then, the school's reining drama duo, twins Sharpay and Ryan, go all out to thwart Troy and Gabriella's success. Despite peer pressure, Troy and Gabriella inspire their classmates not to "stick with the status quo." This bestselling film and soundtrack is the winner of two Emmy awards.
