The Hill Country Arts
Foundation (HCAF)/Point
Theatre is located on the
banks of the Guadalupe River
off State Highway 39 in
Ingram, Texas. HCAF provides
a cultural atmosphere,
including art classes and
theatre for professionals
and amateurs, plus special
children's programs.
Since its founding in 1959,
the Hill Country Arts
Foundation has maintained an
extensive intern program
with theater and college
students from across the
country, attracted by the
opportunity of working with
noted artists and
craftspeople. An internship
with the HCAF is a valuable
supplement and follow-up to
a strong theatrical
education.
Internships/Apprenticeships
run from 8 to 12 weeks
during the summer season.
6 internships are for
college level experience and
are stipend positions for up
to 12 weeks with housing
provided.
4 apprenticeships are
high school level experience
and are unpaid. Participants
will be given a certificate
of completion at the end of
the summer season.
The philosophy of the
program is to have the
intern/apprentice work with
the staff and artists on a
daily basis, observing
practical applications of
skills required in specific
areas and applying those
skills to assigned projects.
While every effort is made
to make
internships/apprenticeships
a valuable educational
experience, participants are
expected to perform a
variety of tasks, not all of
which will be glamorous.
It is recommended that
persons interested in these
positions apply 3 months
prior to their availability.
Housing Arrangements
Housing is available for 6
college interns; you must be
18 years of age to be
allowed to stay in HCAF
housing. If you live in the
area and are applying for a

include backstage work once
the show has opened.

of theatre production by
working with professional
technicians, and using a
variety of materials and
techniques.

been learned and practiced
prior to an internship with
the HCAF. For the most
rewarding experience, you

of power tools, construction
techniques, welding and
electrics. Any special
skills such as lighting,
sound, casting, hydraulics
or sewing should be
mentioned in the related

application.
What to Expect
The technical department is
involved in scenery,
lighting, sound, hard props,
soft props and special
projects. The given
production, the production
schedule and the intern's
area of interest determine
assignments. Assignments may
include set construction,
scenic painting, running
crews for sound and
lighting, and other duties
as determined by the
productions. The success of
an internship/apprenticeship
in this department depends
on the participant’s desire
