HCAF Auxiliary
Gather 14 women with a vision and what do you come up with, the Auxiliary of the Hill Country Arts Foundation. The auxiliary has been, for more than 30 years, a large part of the "glue" that has held HCAF together and has helped it grow. The Auxiliary's activities over the years have helped to provide much needed funds, as well as volunteers for every activity at the Point. From playing the gracious hostesses at the many receptions, helping plant and keep the grounds in order, painting seats in the theatre to operating the gift shop-you name, they've done it! But not all is work for the women who make up today's roster-they pursue their own hobbies. Some members paint. Others quilt, knit, crochet, and do needlework. All items are either sold during the annual Bazaar or in the gift shop. Proceeds from the gift shop are given directly to HCAF. The Auxiliary meets every Thursday at 10:00 am in the Country Kitchen. The third Thursday of the month is set aside for a business meeting. The other Thursdays are "work days". Our membership is open to any that wish to join the auxiliary. The president of the auxiliary is a voting member of the HCAF Board. One of the Point's most important fundraisers is the brainchild of the Auxiliary-the Christmas Bazaar-that brings in from $10,000 to $15000 annually to the HCAF. The first bazaar, in 1974 netted $700 and was two weeks in the making. Today's event is a yearlong undertaking and is one of the finest in the Hill Country. The annual quilt raffle is part of the Bazaar. It usually nets from $4000 to $6000. All proceeds from the Bazaar are donated to the HCAF. In addition the auxiliary hosts receptions for visiting artists and openings of fine art shows. The Auxiliary has a reputation of being a "fun" organization, which plays one of the most important roles in the success and growth of the Hill Country Arts Foundation. |
